Default Fresh install of 7.5 vs upgrade

We are upgrading from 5 to 7.5 at a standalone site where we are using an old, oddly configured and grouchy server. We're building a new server to implement with the upgrade to 7.5 and my systems engineer is in favor of doing a fresh install of 7.5 instead of installing 5 then following the upgrade path.

Has anyone done a fresh install instead of an upgrade, and what challenges did you experience? Would I need to redesign all the users, menus, the whole lot, or could we we import the existing database without starting with 5 and following the upgrade path?

Any suggestions, comments?

Default Re: Fresh install of 7.5 vs upgrade

I've never personally tried to freshly upgrade from ST 5 to 7.5...

The Shoretel build notes recommend an upgrade path from at least ST 6.1 so you will probably need to upgrade to 6.1 then 7.5.

It seems since from ST5 to ST 7.5, its just a matter of upgrading the MS Access database connectors, I would think it would work. Maybe its a good idea to try it on a lab server.
